About RKBL Family Trust

The Founder

A Legacy of Resilience, Integrity, and Compassion

He lost his father when he was only two years old. Over the next eight and a half decades, his life was shaped by a single constant: resilience in the face of adversity. He was a lifelong student, seeking knowledge as a path to success, affluence, and happiness. Perhaps, he was hardwired that way; his father a well-respected Headmaster of a Girls School gifted him a restless intellectual curiosity that stayed with him all his life.

From his mother — widowed at 24, raising three children alone — he learned that all adversity ultimately bows to resilience. As the youngest son, he became the true inheritor of both legacies: his father's devotion to knowledge and his mother's indomitable spirit.

Poverty did not distract him from pursuing a Master's degree in Labor Welfare in the 1950s. In a professional career spanning nearly seven decades, integrity was his north star, family his dharma, and loyalty to friends his second nature.

In his early 70s, with all four children grown and settled, he turned his attention to community service — establishing the Bidulata Memorial Trust in 2009 in loving memory of his late wife, providing student scholarships and social welfare services. The RKBL Family Trust, founded in 2018, carries his vision forward.

A Wellspring of Empathy and Generosity

The "BL" in RKBL honours Bidulata Mohapatra — a woman whose life embodied the enduring power of love and compassion. Her story begins with extraordinary courage.

"When she was around seven years old," she once recalled, "my father gave my younger brother and me up for adoption. He intended to help his childless cousin, but I was stubborn and ran away back home that night. My father initially wanted to send me back, but one of his elders intervened, saying, 'Banchha, don't send her away — she has brought happiness and prosperity to your house, and wherever she goes, she will spread happiness and prosperity!'"

The elder's words proved prophetic. Throughout her life, Bidulata was a wellspring of compassion, bringing joy and unwavering support to everyone she encountered. Empathy and generosity — these two words captured the essence of her being. Her memory continues to inspire every initiative the Trust undertakes.
